With the fall 2013 introduction of new generic top-level domains (gTLDs) – from .APP to .WALMART – Internet users and businesses will have to learn to navigate a dramatically expanded Internet.

New gTLDs may spur great online innovation. But they also may confuse consumers at first and provide cybersquatters with new opportunities to exploit that confusion.

What steps should be taken to address these problems? The most important is to raise public awareness about the new gTLD program, its opportunities, and its challenges.

This event marks the launch of the Know Your Net gTLD public awareness campaign to teach businesses, Internet users, and policymakers about the impact of cybersquatting and how to safely navigate the new Internet space.
